Nightlife Tourism as a curse !!!

 

''A candle burnt at both sides may shed a brighter light but sooner will darkness come back'' what does it mean? Of course, even though we may consider it as a blessing there is also a huge negative impact occurs on the other side by nightlife Tourism. Let me analyze.

 

NEGATIVE IMPACT FOR SOCIETY BY NIGHTLIFE TOURISM

• Nightlife Tourism has a direct impact on socio-cultural issues such as cultural cases, loss of identity of local values and changes in local products to satisfy tourist demand generally appear as disadvantages. Their living style, way of dressing, way of behaviour, way of attitudes & perceptions will have a huge effect on the local community’s culture & values.

• Major issues arising from Nightlife tourism is alcohol abuse & violence. Over Consumptions will create issues among guests. Recently there was a brawl in Glasgow in a night club. According to the news article published in Fox 5, Las vegas ‘’512’’ night club were accused of causing huge number of violence and were commanded to shut down the club by police. So they had to reopen the club after rebranding as ‘’RED’’ to alter the bad image. It's such a tragedy. Isn’t it? . Further clubs is the location that attracts many criminals like drug dealers and muggers which can be a threat for the local community as well. Also Overconsumption will disturb the sleep of neighbours living in the area. And different cultures and countries will have quarrels due to different opinions & choices. Thus even though Alcohol provides more dollars it can be a curse well.
  
  

• Child abuse, Prostitution can be analyzed as another major disaster occurring through nightlife tourism. It will increase the risk of spreading sexually transmitted diseases like HIV and etc. It's very tragic incidents to hear that females are being misused to improve the economy of the country in a bad way by destroying their whole life. Looking at Sri Lanka many beach areas like Hikkaduwa, Mirissa, Negombo we can see many numbers of violence take place of child prostitution and human trafficking which make us scared to visit those places even. Mostly these areas are famous for arranging night beach parties so drugs dealings and alcoholism take place at peak level.

 

NEGATIVE IMPACT FOR ECONOMY BY NIGHTLIFE TOURISM

• Even though many jobs are created by tourism since most of are relatively low-level and part-time jobs, employers will get low wages as well and least expectation for advancement or promotions. Most of the tourism jobs are depending on the seasonal periods, so there will be a time that host community will struggle to survive during the off-season.

• Another disadvantage can be indicated as many bars & clubs are owned by foreigners. Therefore, most of the income will leave the host country so this will be a downfall for the local business community as well. And most of the foreign companies will recruit their own nationalities in turn this may create fewer job opportunities for the locals and the money will leave out of the country.

• With the massive income generated from nightlife in the cities, countries overlook to develop rural areas where only the cities will get overdeveloped.This will lead to have unequal infrastructure development within the country. Also people will struggle to live in rural areas having no job opportunities or ended up in living separately from their own families.

 

NEGATIVE IMPACT FOR ENVIRONMENT BY NIGHTLIFE TOURISM

• Its no doubt that we all know the air pollution and noise pollution occurs through huge number of tourists arrival. Leaving trash and air pollution done by smoking & vehicles will create an unfavorable atmosphere to live. Beach parties will damage the beautiful view of the beach and the seawater as well. Below picture shown in an article published in Mirror news, elaborates the damage done after a beach party in Thailand.

• Also some developing countries will have to rip off the trees and forests to build up carnivals & other entertainment choices. This is strictly against eco-tourism and sustainable development in the country. Destructing bio-diversity will have an adverse effect locally & globally too. we have to inhale polluted air than pure air.

Thus I would like to conclude that there are both positive & negative impacts that occur from nightlife tourism. Overall It’s a blessing and can be a curse too.
